Diamond Sports: Cowboys, Cowgirls Beat Missouri State
Bad day to be a Bear in Stillwater.
It was tough to be a Bear on McElroy Road on Tuesday night, as he Cowboys and Cowgirls both picked up wins against Missouri State.
The Cowboys beat the Bears 8-7 before the Cowgirls closed the day out with an 8-3 win at Cowgirl Stadium.
Here’s a quick recap of each game.
Cowboys 8, Bears 7
Make it eight wins in a row for the Cowboys.
It was a back-and-forth affair. Campbell Smithwick had an RBI single in the first that score Alex Conover but then the Bears scored three straight.
TP Wentworth cut into that Bear lead with an RBI double that scored Danny Wallace from first in the bottom of the fourth.
The game changed in the fifth when Colin Brueggemann hit a grand slam after three straight walks from Brock Thompson, Smithwick and Deacon Pomeroy. It gave the Pokes a 6-3 lead.

The Pokes were cruising until the Bears plated four in the seventh. The first came on a bases-loaded walk before a bases-clearing double.
That made for a tight final two innings, but Noah Wech shut things down.
A sophomore from Wisconsin, Wech has been the star of the Cowboys’ bullpen in the early portions of the season. He threw the final two innings and didn’t allow a hit while striking out two.
Wech’s ERA is down to a 0.87 this season. In 10 1/3 innings, he’s given up one run on two hits while striking out 14. Not too shabby.
OSU is 9-3 and host Gardner-Webb for a three-game series this weekend in O’Brate.
Cowgirls 8, Bears 3
This game was tied going into the sixth inning, where the Cowgirls cracked it open.
Back-to-back infield singles from Aubrey Jones and Tia Warsop put runners on the corners for Jayden Jones to loop one into shallow left that dropped before the fielder could get to it. She ran past it in her effort, allowing both runs to score.
With two outs later in the inning, Claire Timm hit her fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot that scored freshmen Gabby Castillo and Jayelle Austin to balloon OSU’s lead to 8-3.

The win pushes the Cowgirls to 16-5 on the year. They open Big 12 play this weekend against UCF at home.
