Instant Recap: Oklahoma State Moves Past Colorado 92-83 in First Round of Big 12 Tournament
The Pokes move past the Buffs.
The Cowboys were able to out muscle the Buffs, even down a couple of their bigs.
Oklahoma State, the 14 seed, defeated 11th-seeded Colorado 92-83 in the first leg of the Big 12 Tournament.
The Cowboys and Buffs went back and forth on the “glass floor” court to start, neither team separating by more than two possessions until Colorado took a nine-point lead with 11:39 to go. But the Pokes answered with an 8-0 run to get right back in the mix at 22-21 by the nine-minute mark.
Already down Parsa Fallah due to a season-ending knee injury, the Cowboys were without Andrija Vukovic who was also dealing with issues with both knees. In the absence of those bigs, Christian Coleman owned the paint with a double-double. He finished with 17 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.
Thanks in large part to Coleman, OSU outrebounded Colorado 44-34 and 15-10 on offensive boards which resulted in a 17-8 edge in second-chance points. They also led CU 40-30 in points in the paint.
After taking a 35-34 lead with 2:39 to go in the first, the Cowboys led the rest of the way. The Buffaloes stayed in it, but the Cowboys were able to keep them at arm’s length. They did so with second-half shooting and second-chance points.
While Colorado actually outshot OSU in the game (47% to 45%), there was a big difference on the perimeter — namely by OSU’s best shot-maker — that made the difference. After going just 1-for-10 from deep in the first half, the Cowboys were 4-for-7 from 3-point range in the second. Roy was 2-for-3. He led all scorers with 24 on just nine shots (!).

With the win, the Cowboys improve to 19-13 and move on to face 6 seed TCU at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night. That game will be televised on ESPNU.
