STILLWATER — With Ruby Meylan back in the circle on Sunday, the Cowgirls were back to their winning ways.

Oklahoma State beat Kansas 7-0 in Cowgirl Stadium. The win plus Arizona’s loss to Utah means the Cowgirls secured the 2 seed in this week’s Big 12 Tournament.

After the Cowgirls were clobbered without Meylan on Saturday, the Cowgirl ace returned to the circle and added to a little history.

Meylan threw the whole seven, giving up a hit while walking none and striking out seven.

She’s up to 201 strikeouts on the season and now boats a 26-6 record. Meylan becomes the fourth Cowgirl with multiple 20-win/200-strikeout seasons — joining Michele Smith, Melanie Roche and Kim Ward. Not bad company.

The only baserunner the Jayhawks had Sunday came via an OSU error in the fourth. OSU had a shift on. Right fielder Claire Timm was essentially playing shortstop and couldn’t quite get ahold of a hard-hit ball in time to throw Presley Limbaugh out at first.

Meylan had a no-hitter going into the sixth when Ava Wallace sent a ball to the gap in right-center, but after a review, she was tagged out while popping up from her slide at second, quickly putting an end to any momentum the Jayhawks thought they had.

It wasn’t just that the Cowgirls were without Meylan on Saturday — their offense had a bad day. But that group got back on track Sunday, scoring runs in four of the six innings the Cowgirls batted in.

Gajewski said there might be something to the offense playing better in days Meylan pitches.

“The way I would say it is when you look at her and you’re playing behind her, if you don’t think you can win, you’ve lost your mind,” Gajewski said. “We can beat anybody. We’ve shown that. When she throws, we’re as good as anybody in the country.”

It was another solid day of softball for Rosie Davis. The junior third baseman scored a run and drove in three. She hit a two-run home run in the third. It marked her third home run of the series and 13th of the year.

It was her 30th career homer, putting her alone in sixth on OSU’s all-time list.

Davis’ homer was one of three the Cowgirls hit Saturday.

Redshirt freshman Madison Hoffman is absolutely scorching. She homered again on Sunday, this one a two-run shot in the fifth. It’s her third home run in the past four games and fourth since crushing one at Texas on April 22. She’s hit three home runs and a triple in her past five at-bats.

Returning from a knee injury, Hoffman has primarily been used as a pinch hitter. She’s now taken 19 at-bats this season and is hitting .474.

“It’s wild,” Gajewski said. “I don’t wanna talk about it. I’m just gonna keep putting her in there. She’s the hardest worker. It’s crazy to see. She flashes power every day. So, it’s not a shock. It’s not a lucky thing. She’s got crazy pop.”

Senior catcher Audrey Schneidmiller got the home run party started in the second, sending a two-run shot to left. It was her fourth of the season.

OSU enters the Big 12 Tournament having won 20 of their past 24 games. OSU closes the regular season at 37-14 and 16-8 in Big 12 play. Regardless of what happens in OKC, the Cowgirls should be in a good spot to host an NCAA Regional with how they’ve closed the year.

“I do (feel comfortable about being a host), but I’ve seen some wild stuff,” Gajewski said. “We’ll take whatever comes our way and we’ll go anywhere to play. We can win anywhere, but I think we’ve done what we need to to be a top 16 host.”

OSU will play Utah at 5 p.m. Thursday in Oklahoma City. The game will be on ESPN+.
