In the Last Five OSU-Texas Games, nine QBs Have Started
How about that for a stat? The Tulsa World pointed out that Texas will have played four different QBs in its last five meetings against Oklahoma State this Saturday when Jerrod Heard starts. OSU will have played five (!)
Let’s take a look at the last five Texas-OSU matchups.
2011 (Brandon Weeden vs. David Ash)
An ugly game that featured two picks (from Ash) and just one TD (from Weeden). The two combined to toss for just 360 yards. Gross.
2012 (J.W. Walsh vs. David Ash)
A slugfest that featured over 600 passing yards and one very questionable rushing touchdown as the clock wound down in Stillwater.
2013 (Clint Chelf vs. Case McCoy)
The “did you know my brother player here too?” game. Chelf wasn’t great (16/22 for 197 and 2 TD), but McCoy tossed three picks and OSU cruised.
2014 (Daxx Garman vs. Tyrone Swoopes)
The best name game of the bunch. But probably the ugliest on-field play too.
2015 (Mason Rudolph vs. Jerrod Heard)
How surprising would it be if this wasn’t the same QB matchup this time next year?
So there you have it. The nine different QBs that will have started the last five Texas-OSU games as of Saturday. For Texas, it’s largely been an inability to find someone competent. For OSU, save 2014, it’s been a plug-and-play formula that’s meant three wins in the last four years (and hopefully four in the last five later this week).
