Raymond Taylor Deserving of Larger Role in Backfield
Raymond Taylor, a walk-on running back for the Cowboys, is no longer a backup that will only see the field in clean up time. On Saturday, he proved why he deserves more time on the field, and why he could be one of the best fits for this particular offense.
Against Texas Tech, he again took advantage of his limited number of carries once again and proved why he could be a big factor moving forward. He showed decisiveness by hitting the hole quickly, kept his feet moving after initial contact, and his determination as a runner helped spark the Cowboy offense in a time where the running game needed a boost.
Carrying the ball just five times, he tallied 58 yards and two touchdowns, including this monster in which he bounces off a defender Samaje Perine style for the score.
This block from J.W. Walsh to spring Raymond Taylor was just big time:

“We need to use (Taylor) more,” coach Mike Gundy told The Oklahoman. “He’s earned his stripes, for lack of a better term. We need to work him in. When he’s carrying the ball, he’s been effective. He’s shown toughness, durability.”
