Glenn Spencer on Oklahoma State: ‘We Can Get Beat by Anybody’
It’s crazy to think about how close this team is to being 8-1 or 7-2 or even 6-3. Instead, 9-0 and there is weeping and gnashing of teeth over where it should be ranked when the College Football Playoff rankings are released on Tuesday night. The OSU coaches know, though, that this squad is vulnerable.
Mike Gundy has been saying it all year. He said it after the Texas Tech game.
“The year we had [Brandon] Weeden and [Justin] Blackmon and Joe Randle and all those guys, we could make up for things on Saturday because we were so talented,” Gundy said earlier in the year. “We’re not in that situation at this time.”
He said it before the Kansas game.
“We’re not good enough to just show up and get wins. We have to get better every day.”
He said it in the middle of October.
“You just have to talk to your players about the preparation. We’re not good enough to look past anybody. We practice on the team we’re going to play this week. That’s what we’ve always done here.”
His coaching staff, specifically Glenn Spencer, is starting to catch on.
“Could we lose that game up there (on Saturday)? Yes, but it ain’t going to be because of all of this,” said Spencer on Monday in reference to the 2011 plane crash. “If we lose, it’s because (the Cyclones) execute better than us.
“This (OSU) team can get beat by anybody. I really believe that. Hopefully, that allows us to keep an edge for Saturday and not listen to what everybody is saying about us. Playing on the road up there, we’ve got to go and really play a tremendous game because they’re going to play better at home. So you’ve got to play a tremendous game and you’re not going to get a lot of gifts and they’re going to have a lot of emotion and a lot of intensity, so you’ve really got to step up to that challenge.”
I’m sure he will have about 35 Spartan warrior quotes on hand to help motivate his guys.
