There’s some vagueness in the athletic director transition from Holder to Weiberg.

On Thursday, Oklahoma State reported the hiring of Weiberg as its new deputy athletic director. Since 2015, Weiberg has been in a comparable role at Texas Tech.

For several weeks, sources have been consistent with predictions Weiberg would be added to the OSU staff and considered the athletic director-in-waiting.

Before Thursday, it seemed unlikely he would return to Stillwater without a written agreement on a transition date. However, it is believed now there is no such established date.

It appears Weiberg will work as the No. 2 person in the athletic department until Holder decides to roll into retirement. [TulsaWorld]

Another H(aisten)-bomb here, the transition is indefinite. The idea of not forcing out Holder seems great from the perspective of valuing him (and his connections), a wise move. But the immediate question is when will Gundy re-sign and will he do that with Holder sitting in the AD chair?

Cayden McFarland had some great thoughts on how proper credit can’t harmoniously be dispersed between OSU’s influential trio (Gundy, Boone and Holder). The football program is unquestionably better for each of them. It’s hard to tell if this is just the dynamics of major college football or something unique to OSU but I’d suppose it’s the former.

Personal Responsibility

New basketball coach Mike Boynton went deep in a recent interview with the O’Colly about how losing a younger brother shapes him daily.

“I always looked forward to having a brother and I still think about it to this day, what my life would have been like if I actually was able to grow up with him,” he said. “It’s something that consciously I try not to focus on, but subconsciously it really affected the way I think about people and the preciousness of life because he literally never got a chance to come home. I carry that with me every day.”

On a recent trip to campus, Boynton bumped into both a student manager and forward Cameron McGriff. One his way back to the office, he began again to think about life. He was responsible, in some way, for the lives of those people. He thought about what a privilege, but also the huge duty this job entails.

His mind again trailed to his brother and the fragility of life. The person who was in his life for the shortest amount of time is perhaps the one who taught him the most important lesson. [O’Colly]

What admirable depth and perspective for a person to have. You can see daylight through the holes in his resume (no head coaching experience, 35 years old, etc.) but the more you hear about the person he is, he fits the culture of Oklahoma State more and more.

Now obviously winning has to come but stories like this only endear one more towards the guy.
