James Washington: Where I Come From Didn’t Stop Me
Oklahoma State has done a good job with these stories of gratitude videos so far, and this James Washingotn one might be the best one yet. Washington, if you didn’t know it by now, is from Stamford, Texas where there are more silos than people (I have no idea if this is true).
He talks about being from Stamford and what the people there are like: “We hunt, we fish, we raise animals, we care about each other and we work hard.” Yeah, but sometimes we don’t want to know about all that, right Mason Rudolph?
“He’s a big hunter,” Rudolph told CBS Sports recently, “coyotes, varmints. He’ll post pictures of these bloody coyotes on Instagram. Bro, the fan base doesn’t want to see a bloody coyote on your page.”
As a city boy, through and through (one of my good friends once called me a “keyboard jockey”), I can say I am throughly disgusted by the coyote photos (and I haven’t even seen them!)
The ending of the video is poignant, though: “Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something because of where you come from. It didn’t stop me.”
With 152 catches for 2,923 yards and 26 TDs and counting, I’d say not.
“Some people think that coming from Stamford was an obstacle I had to overcome – but I consider it one of my biggest strengths.” #okstate pic.twitter.com/t1pe9GvGnY
