Jawun Evans Nears Double-Double in First Summer League Start

In just his third game this summer, Jawun Evans finally got to start. When he debuted on Friday, the former Oklahoma State point guard only saw the court for nine minutes and he scored just 3 points. He had only signed with his new team the day before, but after some practice time and a nice outing against Utah on Sunday, Evans got the nod against Milwaukee. And he made the most of it.

In 28 minutes, Evans scored 11 points, dished out 8 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds, all highs for his short time as a Clipper. He was 4 of 6 from the field and made 3 of his 4 free throws. Most importantly, he looked like the Jawun we watched carve up Big 12 defenses the last two seasons.

Evans ran the offense well and made things easy for his teammates, including Montrezl Harrell who led the Clippers with 21 points. Several of those were off easy dunks thanks to Evans’ pick-and-roll acumen. Evans also made things hard for Milwaukee point guard Travis Treece who shot just 2 of 11 from the field and struggled to get into rhythm.

These are just exhibition games and Evans will face an uphill battle to earn a playing time come October. But it’s a good sign for the rookie who appears neither overwhelmed nor undersized against NBA talent.
