ESPN Analyst Calls OSU’s Offense ‘Best in the Country’

We all know Oklahoma State is going to trot out one of the most dangerous and talented offenses in the country this season.

But the best in college football? At least one prominent ESPN analyst says yes.

In an interview on SportsCenter, college football analyst Trevor Matich says he believes Oklahoma State’s offense will be “the best in the country” this season. He also thinks OSU will be one of the four teams in the college football playoff this year.

Matich specifically points to quarterback Mason Rudolph as the biggest reason OSU’s offense will be so potent.

“If your team is playing Oklahoma State and their quarterback, Mason Rudolph, drops back to pass… if he looks deep, you better be sure you’re holding your breath and sitting down.”

Matich backs up his statements with some interesting stats about Rudolph’s effectiveness with the long ball.

“…every other throw that he makes more than 20 yards down the field is a completion for 40 yards. Almost one out of three throws more than 20 yards down the field, is a touchdown.”

Some credit for that needs to go to Rudolph’s receivers, especially James Washington. But Rudolph really does deserve a lot of credit. He’s shown a consistent ability to not only throw the ball deep, but do some with accuracy. If he can continue to perform that way this season, OSU should live up to, at least Matich’s expectations.
