For Oklahoma Boys Stoner and Hill, Bedlam Carries Extra Weight
Justice Hill and Dillon Stoner grew up with a better understanding of OU-OSU than OU-Texas, unlike many of the southern-born players on Oklahoma State’s roster.
Hill, a lifelong Poke who attended Booker T. Washington in Tulsa, said on Tuesday that “It’s always been a game I wanted to play in since I was a little kid. Always look forward to playing in the Bedlam game. This is my second go-around so I want to go out there and make a lot of plays. Make an impact.
“They got good players. We’re just going to go out there and take what they give us and execute our game plan.”
Dillon Stoner, whose Jenks Trojans won four-straight state titles before he enrolled at Oklahoma State, will be playing his first Bedlam game. He missed last year’s contest after getting injured earlier in the year.
“Growing up in this state watching this rivalry, just knowing how important this, how much it means to the people here,” said Stoner. “I can’t even put into words how excited I am and ready for this game. You have to take it as one more game, but then again it’s Bedlam, we’re ready for it.
“It’s going to be fun competing against (my old teammates). I’m excited, it’s been a while since I’ve seen them. I’m sure I’ll reach out to them sometime during the week.”
These two will likely play a major role on Saturday as Hill confirmed this week that he’s good to go for the game, and Stoner has a catch in every game he’s played so far this season and is averaging 8 yards a return since being put on punt returns in Austin two weeks ago.
Special teams will likely play a factor into who wins this game on Saturday, and maybe that means Stoner can challenge the No. 91 team in the country when it comes to opponent punt returns. Either way, it’s going to be a special Bedlam for two Pokes who grew up with this game as the ultimate prize in their home state.
