Watch: Kirk Herbstreit Previews Bedlam: ‘It’s About Quarterback Play’
Oklahoma State-Oklahoma might come down to one silly special teams mistake, or a dropped game-clinching interception, or any number of factors that have swayed previous Bedlams. But ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit has pinpointed what we all think will be the deciding factor in this one: Mason vs. Baker.
“To me, it’s the quarterback play,” said Herbstreit. “These two quarterbacks, we knew that Baker Mayfield would have a chance to have a phenomenal year for the Sooners. And he has not let us down. What an opportunity for him to be able to make plays, scrambling, creating and of course throwing the football to a talented bunch of receivers.”
As for Rudolph? Herbie’s a little concerned for No. 2.
“I don’t know, because they don’t disclose it, how healthy he really is. Watching him less week against West Virginia, his passes that normally have a lot of zip on them, for me, didn’t quite have the zip that you’d expect to normally see from him. Again, I don’t know if he’s fighting through some pain, but give him a lot of credit for being out there and still making plays for this offense.”
Even with a less than 100 percent Mason Rudolph, Herbstreit is still predicting a shootout on Saturday and says it will come down to which QB can make the big play late.
I’m ready for Bedlam.
