A.J. Green Bumps His 40 Time, Improves Stock at OSU Pro Day

From 4.6 into the 4.4s is a big deal for a DB looking for pro work.

A.J. Green’s 40 time at the NFL Combine earlier this year did nothing for his pro prospects. He ran the 40 in 4.62, which ranked close to last of the defensive backs who ran in Indianapolis.

So a bump in 40 at OSU’s pro day on Tuesday was paramount for him and whatever future he has playing in the NFL.

“[Scouts] want to see my speed,” Green said on Tuesday in Stillwater. “I put up a good number at the combine on the bench press. I feel like I am just stacking the chips.”

There were no official times released from OSU, but apparently Green hit the numbers he was looking for, according to the Oklahoman.

With all 32 teams in attendance, Green said he was told by scouts that his times on two 40s clocked anywhere from mid-4.4-second range to mid-4.5. Either way, it was an improvement over the 4.62 he ran at the combine on March 1. [NewsOK]

Green is expected to be a late-in-the-draft pick who could end up being a backup in the league. On the right team in the right situation though? Maybe he could be something more. Either way, the new 40 time moves him in the right direction and will only help his chances of being drafted.

I was just focused and locked in. It was one of the last shots to run my 40 ever again. I just had to make it count. I think I made a big jump today,” said Green. “It’s something I have been hoping for my whole life since I was a little toddler. I’m almost at the finish line. Now I just have to keep going.”

Matt Ammendola, Bryce Balous, Dru Brown, Marcus Keyes, Jordan McCray, Philip Redwine-Bryant, Mike Scott, Kemah Siverand and Johnny Wilson all participated in the pro day as well.
