A Look at the Top 10 Uncommitted 2024 Football Prospects from Oklahoma

Historically the Cowboys have done well keeping Oklahomans within the state’s borders and turning them into productive college football players.

As of writing, the Cowboys have two Oklahomans committed in their 13-man class. There are still months (and an entire high school football season) between now and signing day, but should the Cowboys finish with just two Okie signees, it’d be their lowest haul of in-state prospects since 2015.

There are going to be ebbs and flows in regards to in-state talent, and with the transfer portal, college programs might start taking fewer high school kids in general. With that said, I went down a rabbit hole of in-state standouts on Wednesday, looking at the top uncommitted players in the state. Here are the Top 10 players in that category, per 247Sports.

1. Witt Edwards, Athlete, Wagoner

OSU Offer?: Yes

Listed at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, Edwards is an athlete’s athlete. Is he a receiver? Is he a tight end? Is he a linebacker? Is he a safety? Yes, yes to all of those things. He is also a wrestler with ties to OSU through wrestling. His dad, Brian, wrestled at Oklahoma State in the 90s, and his Zalin, Witt’s brother, also wrestled for the Cowboys.

Witt released a Top 8 earlier in the month that included OSU along with Iowa State, Tennessee, TCU, Houston, Vanderbilt, Tulsa and Central Arkansas.

2. Danny Okoye, Edge, NOAH Homeschool

OSU Offer?: Yes

According to 247Sports Composite (which aggregates rankings of multiple recruiting services), Danny Okoye is actually the No. 1 prospect in all of the state. Listed at 6-foot-4, 241 pounds, Okoye finished his junior season with 43 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, six sacks, a forced fumble and an INT.

A top 200 recruit in the Composite rankings, Okoye can go pretty much anywhere he pleases, but OSU fell out of his running in May when Okoye released a Top 10 of Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Oregon, Tennessee and Colorado.

3. Devon Jordan, Cornerback, Union

OSU Offer?: Yes

The Cowboys don’t yet have a corner committed in the 2024 cycle, and it’d be a major win if they could keep Union’s Devon Jordan close to home. Listed at 5-11, 168 pounds, Jordan had 43 tackles and two interceptions in his junior season.

A Composite four-star recruit, Jordan has an impressive offer sheet, but the Cowboys are still in the mix after making his Top 10 late last month alongside Alabama, Oklahoma, Miami, TCU, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Iowa State.

4. Will Smith, Edge, Choctaw

OSU Offer?: Yes?

Will Smith backed off his Oklahoma State commitment in May. As a junior at Choctaw, Smith logged 34 tackles, seven sacks, four forced fumbles and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Listed at 6-foot-3, 235 pounds, Smith has announced offers to Indiana, Arkansas State, Sam Houston and Central Arkansas since his decommitment.

5. Andy Bass, Athlete, Heritage Hall

A quarterback at Heritage Hall, Andy Bass might project to a running back or even a receiver at the college level. One thing is for certain, the kid can fly. Bass won an Oklahoma 3A state title in the 100 meters with a wind-aided 10.56. Leading Heritage Hall to a 14-1 record and a state title as a junior, Bass completed 63% of his passes for 2,833 yards and 28 touchdowns while running for another 970 yards and 17 scores.

He attended camp at OSU this summer (where he recorded a 39-inch vertical). His recruitment had been somewhat tame … until he announced an OU offer on June 13. Since he has also announced offers from Kansas and Kansas State. For what it’s worth, OU seems to be after Bass as a running back, with Bass mentioning running backs coach DeMarco Murray in his offer post. The Sooners recently picked up Taylor Tatum, the No. 1 running back in the class and OU’s second running back commit of the cycle. Will that matter? Who knows?

6. Mykel Patterson-McDonald, Safety, Westmoore

OSU Offer?: No

Listed at 5-10, 175 pounds, Mykel Patterson-McDonald had 108 tackles, eight pass breakups and three interceptions as a junior this past season.

The Cowboys already have a trio of safeties committed in the class, and Patterson-McDonald will commit to a program on Monday, picking among Oklahoma, Missouri, Houston and UNLV.

7. DaMontre Patterson, Athlete, Sulphur

Another athlete, DaMontre Patterson played his junior season at Ada before making the move to Sulphur. Listed at 5-foot-9, 150 pounds, Patterson has offers from Michigan State, Colorado, Cal, Marshall and others.

8. Josh Aisosa, Offensive Line, Edmond Santa Fe

Listed at 6-foot-4, 305 pounds, Josh Aisosa announced he would pick a program on Aug. 14. Aisosa has offers from Oklahoma, Iowa State, Tulsa, North Texas and others.

9. Derrick Osmond, Athlete, Broken Arrow

Most of the time the term “athlete” in football recruiting means some combination of a running back, wide receiver and a defensive back, but in this instance, Derrick Osmond is a 6-foot-6, 235-pound tight end-defensive line hybrid. He caught three passes for 33 yards and a touchdown as a junior while also recording 36 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack.

The Cowboys already have an in-state tight end committed in Stillwater’s Josh Ford. Osmond has offers from Kansas, Tulsa, Eastern Michigan and others.

10. River Warren, Quarterback, Del City

River Warren slung it around for Bishop McGuinness as a junior before making the move to Del City where he’ll play alongside OSU running back commit Rodney Fields Jr. Listed at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, Warren has offers to Marshall, Toledo, Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic and others.

As of writing, the Cowboys don’t have a quarterback committed in their 2024 class, though OSU QB coach Tim Rattay did tweet out some sort of bat signal on Monday.
