Akron Linebacker Transfer Bryan McCoy Commits to Oklahoma State
McCoy had 120 tackles this past season.
The Cowboys got a linebacker out of the transfer portal who had 120 tackles last season.
Bryan McCoy, a 6-foot, 225-pound Akron transfer, announced his commitment to Oklahoma State. For the Zips last season, McCoy made 120 tackles, two tackles for loss and broke up a pair of passes. The earned him an All-MAC Second Team selection. He has one season of eligibility remaining and a redshirt still available. OSU was the first offer McCoy reported out of the portal. He also announced offers to Kansas and Memphis.

Out of Chicago, McCoy played in 10 games as a true freshman in Akron in 2022, earning three starts. That season saw him make 23 tackles. As a sophomore in 2023, McCoy was a All-MAC Third Team selection, recording 94 tackles, six tackles for loss and a sack. He also returned a fumble 13 yards for a touchdown against Morgan State that season. McCoy also had 14 tackles in that game.
McCoy has 10 double-digit tackle games in his career, including taking down 17 ball carriers against Toledo this past season.
Out of Joliet West High School in Illinois, McCoy went to Akron over offers from Air Force and Indiana State before working his way up to the Big 12 in Stillwater.
The Cowboys have some rebuilding to do in their linebacker room, and they’ll do so under a new position coach. Kap Dede was hired from Western Kentucky to coach the Cowboy backers. Dede will coach under new defensive coordinator Todd Grantham. OSU defensive staples Nick Martin and Collin Oliver are NFL bound after successful careers in Stillwater, and Kendal Daniels, who moved up from safety to linebacker in 2024, entered the transfer portal this offseason.
McCoy is the fourth player the Cowboys have gotten out of the portal thus far, and he is the first defensive prospect. He joins offensive linemen Kasen Carpenter (Tulsa) and Lavaka Taukeiaho (Weber State) and tight end Jordan Owens (Central Arkansas) as OSU portal commits.
