Bedlam Notebook

Oklahoma State screwed the game down to a virtual crawl on Wednesday night in Lloyd Noble Center, but despite their best efforts, came up well short once again on the road in a hard fought defeat to No. 3 Oklahoma. You can read my five thoughts from the game here. This is my leftover notebook from the Bedlam showdown on Wednesday evening.

  • Travis Ford’s pregame offensive game plan:

  • But really, Ford wants to slow the game way down if they want a chance to win this one. Even to the point of taking shot clock violations rather than giving up last second heaves. Want to avoid letting the Sooners run in transition.
  • Once again, OSU out to a hot start. 10-1 early lead in LNC, where they typically struggle getting off the ground. Of course it’s not how you start, though. Finish…
  • Jeff Newberry has some serious bunnies.

  • Ryan Spangler real statistics: 0-for-12 from 3 in the month of February, 4-for-4 in the first HALF on Wednesday. He has 19 at the break.
  • The announcers dropping a silent bomb: say Jawun Evans underwent shoulder surgery on Tuesday.
  • The wheels completely falling off now. Ryan Spangler with a steal, leading to a layup, then a silly turnover leads to a quick Sooner run. Turnovers are brutal for a team trying to slow the pace, allowing Sooners to dictate tempo.
  • Is Ryan Spangler the basketball version of Blake Bell? His only good games of the year come in Bedlam. Having a career night.
  • I hate that I love Buddy Hield.
  • This game is so bad, Ford Stuen has now entered the game.
  • These ESPN guys did not do their research before this game. “It would be a major mistake if that happened [Travis Ford was let go.]. “I read a column about how the fans have spoken, they’re not showing up to the games. Well guess what, you go 8-0 to start the season they’ll show up again. He’s a great recruiter, great coach…”
