Boone Pickens: ‘I Think We’re Going to Win Nine or Ten Ballgames’
Boone Pickens addressed the media on Saturday before his Pokes got rolling against Central Arkansas. He wasn’t as bold as usual (maybe he’s been reading OKC Dave’s fan survey?), but he did make some predictions for the year. He also talked about how much he still enjoys coming out to these fall evenings.
“I think we’ll have a good year this year,” he said. “I think we’re going to win nine or ten ballgames. If in error, I think it’d be on the short side. I think we’re going to have a good year.” So … 11 or 12? What about 14?
“You got back to ’11, we could have played for the BCS Championship. That field goal in Ames, I was there and saw it. If we’d made that, we would have been in the BCS finals.”
“I hope to have that happen while I’m still around,” he said about OSU playing for the national title. “It’s fun every year. I look forward to a lot of fun this year.”
He also commented on his relationship with the head ball coach.
“Mike came down to Dallas and we sat down and talked. About a three-hour talk. We both agreed the school was bigger than both of us. We didn’t have any choice, we had to get along because you have to win. We talk every week now. He keeps me up to date on things which is good. I like to be kept up to date.”
And finally, on a beefed-up schedule.
“I want to play somebody in non-conference. Do I want to play three? No, I didn’t say that. I liked that we played Mississippi State three years ago and Florida State last year.”
Me too, Boone. Me too.
