Mike Boynton continues to play well in the state of Oklahoma.

Brandon Garrison, the top-ranked 2023 prospect in the state of Oklahoma, announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Thursday, via his Twitter account.

The Oklahoma City native chose the Cowboys over offers from the likes of Kansas, Florida, Houston, Oklahoma, LSU and Texas. In a chat with Pistols Firing’s Marshall Scott this spring, Garrison called OSU “his hometown school.”

The 6-foot-9, 205-pound center prospect was long considered a realistic OSU target. Being an in-stater no doubt helped, but Boynton coaching him with Team USA this summer may have helped seal the deal.

Garrison is ranked in the 247Sports Composite as the No. 55 player in 2023, the No. 7 center nationally and the top player in all of Oklahoma. With a 97.74 grade he is a four-star talent.

OSU under Boynton went transfer-heavy last cycle with only one of the four incoming talents in the 2022 class being a true high schooler in Quion Williams, a four-star forward. The previous class was all transfers, too. But Garrison being the first commitment in 2023 could help the staff establish a class similar to 2020 that was centered around Cade Cunningham and featured six high school talents and two transfers.

Garrison’s ranking outside the top 50 nationally, by the way, does not at all do justice to the impact he can and will have at OSU. If Moussa Cisse moves on after next season I’d expect him to be a plug-and-play option at center. Here’s what 247Sports‘ scouting department wrote of his abilities.

Garrison is a long, mobile, and tough big man prospect who competes with consistent energy. It seems as if he gets better each time he takes the floor. He is a low-maintenance prospect who plays the game with a high motor and that is shown in the way he sprints the floor, alters, and blocks shots with length. He has a developing body with the frame and shoulders that have the upside to be physically imposing down the road. Offensively, Garrison is shows gradual improvement. His touch and full repertoire inside are developing at a steady rate. If there is anything that his game has proven, it is that he has been a consistent hard worker who can achieve his high long-term potential if he keeps the same mindset towards working on his craft.
