The Cowgirls have ended 13 games this season in less than seven innings (all wins), but their series finale on Sunday lasted nearly four hours.

Oklahoma State secured another weekend series win but saw a seven-game win streak end in extra innings and was handed its first conference loss.

The Cowgirls came into the weekend ranked No. 3 with a 37-3 record (6-0 in the Big 12) while the Cyclones were just 13-23 and 1-8 in conference. But the Cyclones made things tough on the home team all weekend and came out on top in 11 innings on Sunday.

Cowgirls Take Series Win Friday and Saturday

Oklahoma State earned the series win with a 5-2 win on Friday and a 3-2 victory Saturday, both after coming from behind.

Kelly Maxwell was the star on Friday, striking out 11 Cyclones as the Cowgirls stormed back to a 5-2 win. She allowed only five hits and one walk in seven innings. Chyenne Factor hit her second home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game and Rachel Becker hit another in the fifth.

In Game 2 on Saturday, the Cowgirls found themselves down 2-0 in the top of the third inning before tying it up thanks to RBIs from Factor and Kiley Naomi before Morgyn Wynne homered in the fourth to put OSU up 3-2. Lexi Kilfoyl pitched a complete game allowing just three hits, moving to 12-1 on the season,

OSU Falls Short in a Long Game Sunday

Kiley Naomi opened up things up with an RBI single to score Rachel Becker in the bottom of the first, but Iowa State took a lead with a two-run second thanks to RBIs from Carli Spelhaug and Sarah Tyree. But (again) OSU came back.

Morgyn Wynne evened things up with a single to right field in the bottom of the fourth to send Naomi across the plate. Wynne singled again in the bottom of the sixth.

Kyra Aycock got the start and spent six and two-thirds innings in the circle, allowing six hits and two runs, striking out three and walking three.

Kelly Maxwell was given the opportunity to earn the win in just one-third of an inning when she entered in the bottom of the sixth, and she held up her end of the bargain. Unfortunately, she pitched four total innings and still didn’t even finish the game. She allowed three hits, struck out five and walked three before dealing with a finger injury late. Kilfoyl came out for the last out but the Cowgirls were already down 3-2.

After six scoreless innings, the Cyclones finally took the lead thanks to an RBI by Milaysia Ochoa in the top of the 11th. Still, OSU had a chance for the walk-off win. In the bottom of the 11th, there were two Cowgirls on base and no outs before Wynne’s hit turned into a double-play. Tallen Edwards was grounded out for the Cowgirls’ first loss in two weeks. OSU moves to 39-4 on the season and 8-1 in Big 12 play.
