Bullets Rundown

• Time to crawl from the last place recruiting class
• Beautiful view of Boone Pickens Stadium
• Fun Eddie story

Three Observations

• Here’s an optimistic take on why OSU’s football recruiting class is last in the Big 12:

…(OSU) normally runs out in front in the Big 12 recruiting race before fading late — but landing bigger fish often takes more patience than normal. Again, only time will tell if this is true, and the early returns (in the form of commitments) have not been encouraging.

But maybe (hopefully!) OSU has gotten back in the business of being a top-25 recruiting school to match what it’s done on the field of play. [PFB]

OSU could be showing some patience with certain players and playing the recruiting long game with them… and it could lead to a different result in the rankings.

Here’s a sight for sore eyes – you could infer the Man Upstairs is an OSU fan with that color scheme.

It’s hard to imagine a more thoughtful take on Tylan Wallace’s first-round chances in 2021.

It must be tough for Wallace to watch two of his Big 12 peers (Ceedee Lamb and Jalen Reagor) go on day one, he was arguably a better college player.

Two Quotes

• In what was a delightful read about the kind of person Eddie Sutton was early in his career, these thoughts about Coach Sutton’s coaching style at a Tulsa high school were prophetic of how his teams would play.

“Eddie did not have a great group of athletes to coach that first year. The best athletes in Tulsa were at Booker T. Washington. Very few black athletes attended Central, and they were usually BTW rejects. Following football season, Eddie decided he would take some of our football athletes and make basketball players out of them. After all, defense was his game, and if he had some tough rebounders and guys who could run, he could teach the rest.” [NewsOK]

• While the Pokes lost out on five-star target Greg Brown yesterday, his quote on why he stuck with the Horns and shunned the G-League was interesting.

“…I will be committing to the University of Texas. … I just want to create a legacy like my mom and dad did at UT. Coach Smart was the first coach to offer me in the seventh or eighth grade. We just developed a great relationship ever since. All the other schools were great, but I just have to leave a legacy here at Texas.” [Instagram]

It’s interesting that he wants to “create a legacy” at a university and that a relationship with a coach meant enough for him to pass up six figures.

If you were worried about Cade taking off for the pros, it appears not all of his peers require that minor league experience.

One Question

• As the NCAA moves closer to allowing endorsements, what Cowboy since 2000 would have made the most on endorsements?
