The Guy that Follows the Guy
CBS took a stab at picking the guys who would replace college football’s most impactful players of 2018 – and Tyron Johnson is up next.
Replacing a Biletnikoff Award winner is no small task, but at Oklahoma State, (James) Washington isn’t even the only 1,000 receiver departing. Combined, Washington and Marcell Ateman accounted for over 2,700 of Oklahoma State’s 5,059 receiving yards last fall.
Jalen McCleskey is the most accomplished returner, but Johnson is the guy that will need to step things up. Johnson is a former five-star prospect and LSU transfer that has the downfield size and playmaking ability that Washington and Ateman showed. He has yet to live up to his lofty billing coming out of high school, but the physical tools are there and the opportunity awaits this fall. [CBS Sports]
Tyron showed flashes against Tulsa and Oklahoma, his big-play capacity could be on display if someone with an arm can get it to him.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Quarterback
In an extensive mock draft, ProFootballFocus has Mason Rudolph headed to the great white north – and explains his pro potential very well.
22. BUFFALO BILLS – FROM KANSAS CITY
Quarterback Mason RudolphThe Bills are happy to take a chance on Rudolph at this point in the first round. He is a solid intermediate and downfield passer, especially the vertical route tree outside the numbers, though he must improve his accuracy in the short game. Rudolph is a difficult evaluation as he was strong in key areas, including posting the top third-down grade in the draft class, but he also ranked 34th in PFF grade in the red zone. [PFF]
No. 2 is such an interesting prospect to read – he does the hard things so well (throws it deep well, played well on third downs) but struggled to make the throws a limited passer makes.
