Fathers and Sons

Berry Tramel writes about the importance of having a loving, good father.

Later, from the podium, he told the crowd of more than 700 that his parents, Carl and Carolyn, “are my biggest role models. All those life lessons they have taught me. My dad was always there for me growing up.”

The headline on our Reeves package in the Sunday Oklahoma proclaimed “What a Country.” Indeed. What a country we’d have with more fathers like Carl Reeves and Ron White. [NewsOK]

I think the notion that these kind of fathers are nonexistent these days is a little overplayed, but maybe I’m naive in that arena. Certainly Country and Jason White had unique American sporting experiences that were driven by their parents in both good times and bad.

Tralund Webber is confident

I’m a big fan of Oklahoma State’s defensive line. Tralund Webber, however, makes me look like a foe.

Webber is high on his teammates on the defensive line like tackle Darrion Daniels and end turned tackle Trey Carter and D.Q. Osborne as well as the ends like Jarrell Owens, Cole Walterscheid, Vili Leveni, and Jordan Brailford. “I think we have the best defensive line in the nation.” Those are big words, but they seem to come from a guy that knows how to back it up with making plays. [Go Pokes — $]

I don’t know about the country, but I certainly think OSU has a chance to be one of the best defensive lines in the conference this season.

Aaron Cochran’s big loss

Cochran has already lost 30 pounds, according to the AP.

An already-experienced Cowboys offensive line added a graduate transfer from California who has 16 career starts and protected productive quarterbacks Jared Goff and Davis Webb. Listed at 6-foot-8, 350 pounds, Cochran has already impressed coach Mike Gundy after arriving at camp, having lost 30 pounds, 10 more than what the coach had requested. [AP]

As much as we have talked about it, I’m still not sure we’ve made a big enough deal about Cochran transferring to Stillwater. That’s going to end up being a much bigger deal than Adrian Baker coming from Clemson, I think.

Vincent Shining in Miami

It sounds like VT could legitimately be with the Fins this fall.

Similar to Godchaux, Taylor has flashed at times on the second-team defense. Taylor also has received first-team reps on occasion and has shown some ability to stop the run. He entered training camp on the roster bubble but now has a solid chance to make the 53-man roster. [ESPN]

How great would it be if him and Chris Carson both made a roster?

OSU and NCAA Notes

Chad Whitener says you have to be in shape to play defense in this conference (he’s guarding McCleskey in practice) … It sounds like Matt Ammendola is going to be the guy on FGs … Why Tylan Wallace will play … If OSU’s corners can cover OSU’s receivers, they can cover anyone.

Dez forever.

Parker Graham returns to Stillwater (and he’s a lot thinner).

Josh Holliday talks at the Cowboy Caravan.
