Oklahoma State Now the Favorite To Land Israel Antwine

Things change quick in the world of recruiting.

Just yesterday we talked about the defensive tackle recruits Oklahoma State should target for their 2018 class. Among those was three-star Israel Antwine, the former Ole Miss commit from Oklahoma City. At that time, 247Sports had Texas as the overwhelming favorites to land Antwine. They offered him a scholarship just before his decommitment from the Rebels, and seemed a lock to gain his commitment.

Not so fast.

In the past 24-plus hours, Oklahoma State has become the favorites on 247Sports, with some of the experts who originally picked Texas, now flipping their bets to the Cowboys.

As of Tuesday, nine of the 10 expert picks are for OSU. That includes three who flipped their opinions. A look at who is picking the Cowboys makes me even more confident Antwine is going to end up in Stillwater next year.

Daniel Seahorn, the recruiting analyst for 247Sports’ Texas page, HornSports, flipped his pick to OSU. Seahorn has a solid track record, correctly making 80% of his 155 picks. Two other HornSport contributos, Mike Roach and EJ Holland, are now picking Oklahoma State as well.

This is what Holland had to say about his belief Texas is no longer the favorites.

“Oklahoma defensive tackle Israel Antwine has been pegged as the strongest candidate to be UT’s next commit. However, after talking to a source, I do not expect Antwine to be a part of this class. With Keondre Coburn now in the fold, it seems the Longhorns’ recruiting approach with Antwine has changed.”

Oklahoma State was in the mix for Antwine before he picked Ole Miss, and has continued to be ever since he reopened his recruiting. While offers are still coming in,(Baylor offered on Sunday, August 13th) Coach Gundy and Co. have to feel confident they can land one of the best players in the state.
