Daily Bullets (August 2): Cornelius Argument Is Growing, Chris Carson Fantasy Stock

The Default Option

As word continues to spill out of Stillwater that Taylor Cornelius is “the guy”, John Helsley fills us in on more context.

A year ago August, the honest sentiment around Cowboys camp went something like this: “Pray long and hard that nothing happens to Mason Rudolph.” While any team would carry such thoughts on their starter at QB, not to mention an elite QB like Rudolph, these thoughts were more aimed at the backups, Cornelius and Wudtee, who struggled to find receivers in 7-on-7 drills throughout the preseason.

Something, however, changed through the course of the 2017 season for Cornelius. And by the bowl practices, where backups and youngsters regularly get a long look while the vets grab some rest and recuperation, Cornelius raised eyebrows with the way he threw the ball and commanded the offense. That continued into and through the spring, solidifying his status with the team and the head coach. [GoPokes]

As the 2018 preseason winds down, question one remains: who will the quarterback be and how well can he perform? Pieces like the one above inch the narrative closer to thinking that Taylor Cornelius isn’t just the “best of the rest” but may be the best option available this fall.

Carson knows.

Chris Carson: Starting Seahawk or Naw?

Before you put on your orange sunglasses for your fantasy football draft, is Chris Carson the Seahawks’ starter or the handcuff?

I’m not buying that Carson will be the best running back for the Seahawks this year. That should be Penny if he stays healthy. And just because coach Pete Carroll is glowing about Carson at the start of training camp, it doesn’t mean Carson’s ADP should rise dramatically. But still, you should find a place for Carson on your roster, and Round 10 at No. 117 overall is a fair price.

Carson looked good as a rookie in 2017 before suffering a broken leg in Week 4 against the Colts, which ended his season. In two games before that, he scored 19 combined Fantasy points in a non-PPR league, and he was Seattle’s best running back last year. Should Penny struggle or get hurt, Carson could step into a featured role, and he’s a good lottery ticket to stash on your bench. [CBS Sports]

These stories are heartbreaking. Can you imagine if any of this abuse had been fatal? This on what Ohio State would have to look past to keep him was spot on.

Encouraging Jarwin reports continue to roll out of the Big D.

This is a fascinating idea.
