Most Explosive

CBS ran a quick list of college football’s most explosive players and a Poke came out on top.

I can’t help but feel like James Washington gets overlooked a bit too easily in the college football world. The kid has played three whole seasons now, and he’s put up some rather ridiculous numbers while doing so…

Since the start of the 2015 season, Washington has caught 124 passes for 2,467 yards. Quick, do that math in your head. That’s 19.90 yards per reception. Washington is getting nearly 20 yards every single time he catches a pass.

He also has 20 receiving touchdowns over the last two years, meaning he scores 16.1 percent of the time that he catches a pass. For a guy that’s not just a red zone target, that’s an impressive rate. [CBS Sports]

Predicting later that Washington could have a season not unlike former Sooner Dede Westbrook, with recognition carrying him to a seat in New York at the Heisman ceremony.

Transfer Impact

More color is coming out on what Clemson-transfer Adrian Baker brings to the table.

His defensive coordinator at Clemson, former OU defensive coordinator Brent Venables, says his cover skills are strong. He also suggests his ability to play the nickel in five and six man coverage is very good. If there is a knock, it would be that Baker is not considered as physical as some corners.

Oklahoma State safeties coach Dan Hammerschmidt likes the influence and championship pedigree Baker brings to a young group. Baker may not have played last season, but he did play in the 2015 semifinal win over Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff and the hotly contested CFP Championship Game won by Alabama. So solid cover skills but potentially a minus in run support and a harder time with bigger receivers. Adding solid depth like Baker to the secondary was urgent replacing two starters and a seasoned veteran will go a long ways in the young position room.
