Charlie Knows

Charlie Strong may be pointing to a variety of teams but the implications for Oklahoma State are clear.

“If you look at the teams that are good in college football, they all have a quarterback,” Strong said. “When we were at Texas, Baylor had Bryce Petty. Oklahoma State has Mason Rudolph, and Oklahoma has Baker Mayfield.

I think about A&M, [Kevin Sumlin] is struggling right now because he doesn’t have a quarterback. You get a dude back there, you have a chance.” [Yahoo Sports]

And that’s the insane thing: a solid, high performing college quarterback creates more value (or downside) than anyone else on the field. Think of how bad Louisville would be without Lamar Jackson.

Magic Ingredient

OSU’s star-studded wide receiver cast has one incredible quality that’s not really discussed: humility.

(James) Washington, the de facto leader of Oklahoma State’s receivers after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, said there’s not a whiff of egos or selfishness in OSU’s wide receivers room.

And given the number of players vying for touches this fall, that’s a good thing.

Wide receiver is typically the position most associated with the word “diva” in all of sports. But the only thing that could derail Oklahoma State’s potentially dominant set of receivers — a problem caused by not having enough passes to go around — doesn’t seem like it will be an issue in Stillwater. Nobody has a Terrell Owens, Steve Smith or Odell Beckham-esque persona or attitude in this group.

Dana on Lincoln Riley as a player is top shelf:

Can’t wait to see this dude play. Also, he used some version of the word “work” 11 times in this video.

Yeah he is.
