(Not) Fading From Memory

TulsaWorld’s Guerin Emig looks at what the latest round of (potential) contentiousness between the Mike’s (Holder and Gundy) could mean.

Maybe it would be better if the 24-hour news cycle had swallowed what one of them said and the other tweeted. That way, fans, donors and media could pass this off as (Cow)boys being (Cow)boys, forget about it and get on with their business along with the athletic director and coach.

Instead, Holder’s remarks and Gundy’s reaction will live on in some infamy I’m afraid. And if they don’t strain a relationship that is pretty much exhausted already, they will likely affect something far more important — the two individuals’ work. [TulsaWorld]

Regardless of where you land on Holder’s comments, the cryptic tweets do appear to indicate Mike Gundy felt something about the remarks. And anything that affects a working relationship between a coach and athletic director isn’t helping OSU win football games.

Top Shelf Talent

While talented pieces of the best wide receiver depth chart in school history still remain, it’s not a question of who the Cowboys will lean on the carry the offense in 2018. And Sports Illustrated thinks he’s one of the top 50 players in college football.

31. JUSTICE HILL, RB, OKLAHOMA STATE
Mason Rudolph, James Washington and Marcell Ateman are gone, but attrition won’t stop Mike Gundy from expecting his Cowboys offense to score at will. After leading all freshmen with 1,142 rushing yards during the 2016 regular season and topping the Big 12 with 1,347 yards and 14 TDs on the ground during the ’17 regular season, Hill will be called upon to pop big plays with regularity even if J.D. King steps into a larger backfield role.

Hill runs with a creativity and an anger that most defenses on Oklahoma State’s schedule won’t have an answer for, and with runs of more than 30 yards in seven of 13 games last year, he may be this year’s best proof that you don’t need to take to the air to pick up chunks of yards at a time. [SportsIllustrated]

That line at the start of the second paragraph says it all – Hill’s talent and passion will be hard for the defenses on the Cowboy schedule to match up with.
