After losing their famous quarterback and wide receiver to the NFL, the Pokes have been relegated to the second tier of Big 12 title contenders for 2o18.

Tier 2
2. TCU
3. Texas
4. WVU
5. Oklahoma State
6. Iowa State

TCU, Texas, and OSU are either breaking in new QBs or trying to decide between last year’s unconvincing candidates. WVU has a QB and incredibly perilous depth. Iowa State has to fight expectations for the first time in a while and has depth questions of its own. [SBNation]

Personally, I’d drop Iowa State and Texas from that tier (prove that you belong, Texas). No problems giving West Virginia the nodd with such a prolific offense and it wouldn’t hurt to take a flyer on Kansas State.

Roll (Away From The) Tide

Cowboy target (to end all targets) Dax Hill opened up a bit about his visit to Tuscaloosa.

Hill opened up about his Alabama visit to Andrew Bone of BamaInsider.com, but he was noncommittal about which school is likely to get his name on the dotted line.

Mostly, he talked about checking out the campus, meeting with Alabama head coach Nick Saban, the relationship he’s forged with defensive backs coach Karl Scott, and the time he spent with former McLain running back Josh Jacobs, his host for the weekend.

Oh, and he liked the Tuscaloosa campus just fine. [TulsaWorld]

That we live in a society that zooms in on how an high schooler feels about these things is insane… but incredibly relevant in the process. I don’t get anything out of that – I had forgotten about Tulsa- native Josh Jacobs and how that may help in the recruitment process. He played as a freshman but saw his carries nearly cut in half as a sophomore – could help or hurt I suppose.

This is really what Dax Hill’s recruitment is summarized by:

“It’s hard to get a read on him because he’s so quiet,” Calip said.  [TulsaWorld]

OSU and NCAA Notes

Ten toughest places/schools to win at in the Power Five (four of ten Big 12 teams made the list)….A five-star receiver from Cal is on the open market….Big 12’s Bowlsby weighed in on increasing bowl games, new redshirt rule….Five Cowboy golfers made All-American….Adarius Bowman’s massive shoes are being filled well at his old CFL team

Enjoyed this commercial during the draft – featuring a former Poke.

Savage tweeting – college programs have really invested in good twitter guys.

Somebody tell Chief we’ve gotta get those winged helmets for HoCo one year every year.

Hovland is rolling at the Amateur Championship.

A fantastic question.

As a Payne County native, this is as “summer in Stillwater” as it gets.
