Barn Burner in Steel Country

OSU at Pitt looks like a lock for the Big 12’s best game for week three.

This will be a better game than Texas-USC, and it might rank as the Cowboys’ biggest hurdle to an 8-0 start and Bedlam craziness at home on Nov. 4, with major College Football Playoff implications in the balance. [ESPN]

In comparing the Pitt game to USC-Texas, OSU and USC are playing the “conference contender” role while Pitt and Texas are looking to play spoiler. With the game in Pittsburgh, you really could see the OSU game being a better option.

Maximum Utility

Marcus Smart’s value in the NBA is limited by his deep ball but upped by his versatility.

Smart also added he would not have been concerned had the Celtics taken Markelle Fultz or another point guard.

“I can play multiple positions, that’s the uniqueness about me,” he said. “It makes me a pretty good player that I’m able to do that. Danny and those guys like what they see and I think that’s why they drafted me.” [Boston Globe]

That’s the Smart conundrum for teams: he’s perfect if you’ve got a point guard that loves to shoot from deep more than drive – as Smart doesn’t space the floor well. He doesn’t fit the spacing of the NBA today but his stockiness and length make him perfect for how switchy defenses are.
