Market Value
Giving an appropriate, well-earned, reasonable raise to a coach was a well-thought-out, risk-averse move by Mike Holder.
Boynton knew the questions about his salary — $1 million, last in the Big 12 — would come as his first season ended. He also knew discussions would take place. And he knew he had solid relationships with the powers that be — the people, like athletic director Mike Holder, who saw something in him before anyone else.
The result of those relationships: Boynton and Oklahoma State agreed to a new six-year, $11.5-million contract on Tuesday, six days after his first year as head coach ended in the NIT quarterfinals. The contract, which runs through the 2023-24 season, extends his original deal by two years while nearly doubling the total salary over the life of the deal. [TulsaWorld]
As much of a mess was made with the previous hires, the third time was a charm: bought low, let the coach earn the raise, get past the five-year number implying stability. The least experienced coach should still likely be the lowest paid in the league but closing the gap a) deters wandering eyes and b) builds goodwill towards said coach in case he continues to blossom.
All Boats Rise
When talking about the 2018 Cowboy football team, it’s more about what is known than what isn’t.
There are short-term quarterback concerns unless Hawaii graduate transfer Dru Brown or an unproven player blossoms this fall. The long-term outlook is a bit better after Oklahoma State signed Spencer Sanders, ESPN’s No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 class. While the quarterback position evolves, the Cowboys can lean on running back Justice Hill (2,609 rush yards in first two years) for at least another season and possibly two.
“He’s the best running back in the country coming back,” a Power 5 coach said. “Dude is a freak show.” [ESPN In$ider]
ESPN ranked the Pokes No. 21 in their future offensive power rankings – buoyed heavily by the short-term potential of Justice Hill’s potency.

The Pokes were spotted two free touchdowns a game because of these kinds of throws.

Boone with the truth.
By my count, Boynton’s still likely to be the lowest paid coach in the Big 12. So spare me the “whoa whoa whoa did he earn it?” A) Boynton absolutely deserved a raise and B) OSU isn’t exactly breaking the bank to keep a coach they love in town through 2023-24 season. Win-win.

I’m 75 percent sure this is some sort of video game edited for a recruit – love the Pokes getting clever like this.

Not OSU/NCAA related but this was a fun sports moment.
