Congrats to all the new Cowboy and Cowgirl alums graduating today, you make us all proud.

The Guys After The Guys

After three years of solid offensive identity, is there any precedent for what the Pokes are likely to do offensively in 2018?

The OSU system is built around balance between the run and pass, tempo, and then a QB that can distribute the ball down the field when the defensive coverage dictates that’s where the offense is at advantage. Whether they can do that at Rudolph’s level without either the veteran QB or his top target seems obvious, it’s just a matter of degree in the decline.

The best parallel is probably the 2009 Missouri Tigers who replaced Chase Daniel (and his top targets) with Blaine Gabbert and Danario Alexander and slipped to 8-5. [Football Study Hall]

That appears to be the big question in my mind – do you go with a guy who appears to be more capable of hitting guys outside the numbers down the field in the Oil Baron or take the semi-lethal wheels and lean on short timing routes and passes down the middle with the Hawai’i transfer?

Also, 8-5 like that Mizzou team sounds like a good comp. Losses in Norman, in Stillwater to Texas (see history books) and West Virginia, then two of K-State in Manhattan, TCU in Fort Worth and Boise State in Stillwater.

Bring It Home

What do the Pokes need to do to bring home the baseball league crown this weekend?

In the months since (an early season slump), the Cowboys, a team dependent on young players and newcomers with a handful of veteran pillars, have shrunk that margin. OSU enters this weekend’s series at Baylor capable of winning the Big 12 before the season’s final week; a sweep of the Bears would earn the Cowboys their third regular-season or tournament conference title since Holliday became their coach ahead of the 2013 campaign. [NewsOK]

Sweep the midling Bears on their home field and you’ve locked up their third title under Holliday – what a start to his head coaching career that would be.

OSU and NCAA Notes

CBS has Gundy ahead of prominent Big 12 peers in their coach ranking….Ole Miss transfers immediately eligible after Hugh-Gate (grab ya’ a DB Knowles!)….Dabo Swinney has built his own ‘Bama at Clemson….Cowgirls fell to Baylor in pool play yesterday….Cowboy alum Alex Noren tied for the lead at the Players

Pokes ran out of Waco last night – got a shot to get back in it today.

If the question is how interesting could next season be in Cowboy Basketball, this is the correct answer for why that’s the case.

Rickie missed the cut at TPC Sawgrass but gave us this hilarious moment: “can you identify it by bird?”

Major props – a Cowboy to be proud of.
