Good Report

The TulsaWorld’s Guerin Emig had a glowing report after talking with OSU assistant Scott Sutton last week.

My favorite part of the event was how much Scott Sutton enjoyed it. The coach has a lot of friends in Tulsa. Several of them who were at the Center noticed how happy he was, and how refreshing that is to see given his final tormenting days at ORU.

Sutton told me how proud he was of OSU’s past season, his first as an assistant to Mike Boynton. He raved about the young head coach and spoke excitedly of the Cowboys’ future. [TulsaWorld]

Life’s too short to be miserable at work all day – and Oklahoma State fans are happy to see a member of the Sutton family happy on the sidelines. It’s natural to speak highly of your boss but the encouraging comments about the up-and-comer Boynton was encouraging too.

Championship Drive

With the Pokes’ quest for an eleventh national championship set off yesterday, take a look at OSU’s best hope for an individual crown and team prospects.

Matthew Wolff, Oklahoma State

Wolff, a freshman from Agoura Hills, California, has a 69.97 stroke average and has finished in the top five six times this year. His teammate, Viktor Hovland, also has six top-five finishes. [TulsaWorld]

No. 1 Oklahoma State
How it got here: First in Columbus regional

Coach: Alan Bratton

The Cowboys have a real shot of winning their first title since 2006 on their home course — and Matthew Wolff and Viktor Hovland should contend for individual glory, too. [TulsaWorld]

So much of sports is having the right athletic capacity and a competitive mindset to win. The Pokes bring an experienced squad of stone-cold competitors to the field – and it should be fun to watch.
