NFL Comps for the Win

CBS looked at a list of potentially draft-bound 2019 running backs and had a great NFL comp for Justice Hill.

Strengths: Rare agility and the highlight reel-creating capability to explode through his cuts. Hips are extremely loose. Plays with deceptive power and has top-level balance to stay on his feet after contact. His strong legs never stop churning. Reliable in the pass game and is a menace in the open field because he reads and reacts to his blocks well.

Weaknesses: Sleek, smaller-than-normal frame to be a featured back at the NFL level. Acceleration is outstanding but top-end speed isn’t elite.

Early comparison: Devonta Freeman [CBS Sports]

Love the Freeman comp – undersized but productive NFL back with big game capacity. I thought the top-end speed comment was interesting, he doesn’t Tatum Bell defenses but I can’t recall any caught-from-behind instances.

The Pokes scraped by in the quarterfinals yesterday, knocking off Aggies on this key sequence.

With two points in the can for OSU, Zach Bauchou struggling in the final match and Ventura and Lee headed off to the 10th hole, the match hinged on freshman Austin Eckroat vs. redshirt sophomore Brandon Smith.

They went to the par-5 18th hole all square before Smith pumped one into the right hay and Eckroat piped his drive down the middle. Smith punched out into the fairway, and Eckroat took his stance from 250 yards away. Zero thoughts of laying. None. His eyes never left the flag.

The true freshman hit one pin high and two-putted for the 1-up win over Smith. It was an unbelievable moment. Ventura and Lee shook hands and called it a day all square, and Bauchau ceded the final hole to his opponent. OSU moved on 3-1-1. [PFB]

The guts of a freshman carried an excellent team one step closer to the ultimate goal. And then he did it again that afternoon to clinch a spot in the title bout with the Tide.

Pokes have landed football players from all of the Texas schools on the list – except for Southlake Carroll (as far as I can remember).

Grade A-tweeting.

An incredible pass from Big Tuna.
