Rising Tide

Is it possible that less four NFL draft picks (one being at football’s most important positions), the 2018 football team could be better than the 2017 version?

The Cowboys should be even better at running back. Their offensive line has the chance to be steady, with three returning starters. The cornerbacks are improving. The linebackers will be better. The defensive line returns nearly everyone. The specialists do all return.

Of course, at two of the most visible positions, the Cowboys are replacing starters Mason Rudolph, James Washington and Marcell Ateman. But the talent and experience on the rest of the roster might be better than it was in 2017.

And if OSU can get turnover-free play from its quarterback, whether that be Taylor Cornelius or someone else, the pieces around him could help the team stay in the upper echelon of the Big 12. [TulsaWorld]

Cowboy Backs are a push, safeties won’t be as experienced. The latter will play a massive role in the play of the defense with three of them on the field at all times. But I’ll hear an argument that these Pokes will be 1.5 games better than their 2014 counterparts but not in the same tier as the 2017 variety.

Almost Famous

As Monday’s debut for the college golf-version of Hard Knocks draws near, it’s amazing to consider the publicity Cowboy Golf will get.

As the 29-year-old executive producer (Rickie Fowler) of “Driven” — a four-part documentary series that focuses on the OSU golf program and the Bedlam rivalry — Fowler has taken that loyalty to an interesting and different level.

A film crew has shadowed OSU golfers since the fall. The Tulsa World was given an advance look at Episode 1, and the production qualities and storytelling are on the same level as ESPN’s “30 for 30” films. [TulsaWorld]

For one of the two programs where Oklahoma State is a bonafide, blue chip-landing traditional power, national air time will be used just to show it off. Now if only the documentary could end with a national title over their primary rival

If you’re counting at home, here’s the moving number for the baseball league title:

Rickie is six  back going into the final day of the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte.

Gosh I’m excited to see Carter and Daniels in the middle of the defense this year.

Jeff Carroll fighting for a spot.

Golf is one sport where professional and collegiate facilities can be on a level playing field… or uneven concerning Karsten Creek.
