Three Thoughts

Tough result for the Cowgirls losing the first Bedlam game in Stillwater last night, 8-3. The Pokes took game one from East Tennessee St., Kenny Chesney’s alma mater (OKState.com)

• This bodes well – OSU’s freshman class climbed into the top-ten after four of five recruits climbed in the rankings (247 Sports)

Color me skeptical that OSU is in trouble on the football team – below are comments where a sportswriter notes that these are the comments that are an “overreaction”, and with any context on Mike Gundy it’s hard not to agree with him.

The Cowboys rank as one of the biggest losers of the transfer portal after losing essentially the entire offense following the 2022 season. Oklahoma State lost five of its top six receivers, its two top rushers and longtime quarterback Spencer Sanders.

Two Quotes

• This is a really good number on league wins – 6.5.

• Kenny G. on how the Cowgirls turned the tide in the series against the Sooners (as much as anyone has):

“I think when you’re getting your ass kicked so much, you get a little bit numb,” Gajewksi said. “Then you say, ‘OK, it’s time to quit worrying about them and let’s just worry about us.’ [Since those early years] we’ve got better players, we’ve got better talent, better experience, played a better schedule, doing more stuff. We’re putting ourselves in better spots more often.”

One Question

• The Big 12 could be considering new branding (conference name) if they add more teams – what you got for a name?

Thoughtful take on the Big 12-> Mexico debate:

Essentially, if this is executed well, these games will provide deeply meaningful experiences to athletes. That’s worth celebrating! They might help provide an important cultural exchange for Big 12 schools that don’t have many Mexican students or community members…and very long-term, the trips may help cultivate new fans in Mexico. If that’s how the Big 12 will measure success, then sure, this seems like a great idea.
