OSU Bullets

• This from Marshall Scott on how OSU is 5-3 at a time when it was … probably supposed to be 5-3 is good and a solid point.

So, the Cowboys are 5-3 at a point in the season where 5-3 was a solid possibility. It’s just, in classic OSU fashion, the route there was quite unconventional.

Details within those games, the three losses in particular, have made it made it seem probably worse that it actually was. A five-turnover game from a freshman quarterback and a 21-7 fourth quarter are solid reasons for concern, but on the macro level, those losses count just as much as the Texas game where the Cowboys looked as good as a young team could in defeat. [PFB]

I don’t think I would have taken 5-3 before the season because I would have held out for 6-2, but I probably would have taken it after the Tech game and definitely would have taken it after the Baylor one.

• Amen talks about closing out the Cyclones.

Quite the finish for a defense that has been maligned for not just the last two games, but much of this almost-finished decade.

“Our backs were against the wall,” Ogbongbemiga said. “A lot of situations in the past, we would have folded. I’m just so proud of everybody. We have times where we’ve disappointed. We’re getting tired of those moments. For us to come out and win the game for our team, it’s a big deal.” [NewsOK]

That’s really well said.

• I don’t know that I realized that OSU only had two penalties.

Before the Iowa State trip, Rodriguez explained during a post-game interview in the Cyclones weight room, “(Mike Gundy) challenged us to do more preparation. I feel like we did that. The defense made a lot of big stops there at the end.”

Recording its fourth consecutive win in Ames, OSU committed only two penalties and finished plus-2 on turnovers. [Tulsa World]

So more picks than penalties on Saturday in Ames. That’s only happened one other time in the Gundy era — in 2013 against Kansas State.

• The INTs will get all the shine, but this part of OSU’s defensive stand was just as impressive (if not more so).

OSU’s defense bent at times — Charlie Kolar looked like Gronk and Breece Hall looked like Chuba — but did not break often, and it came up huge when needed, finishing each half strong. Iowa State had made it into the Cowboys’ red zone in two of its final three possessions of the first half (and was 1 yard away on the other) but the Cowboys held them to three field goal attempts. They gained just 6 points on those after a 39-yard miss. [PFB]

• Spencer Sanders is your new single-season freshman passing leader. The others on this list turned out to be … a pretty mixed bag.

• My 10 thoughts on the game. Also, a notebook.

• By the way, sounds like Calvin Bundage will be back in 2020.

• A question: Is Amen OSU’s best defender this season? He probably is, right?

• I cannot get over this stat.

• Tech Teched harder than Kansas Kansased. Incredible ending.

• I lol at this.

• It … might be.

• Also I don’t really disagree with this.

• Berry reps Chinese pizza in Ames? I did not see this coming.

• Here are the highlights of the game if for some reason you haven’t seen it yet.

The Marcus Watson suspension dropped just before the Iowa State game. It isn’t encouraging, but we’ll see how it plays out in the next few days and weeks.

This feature on Matthew Wolff has some great photography to go with it.

Recruiting News

• Good stuff here on Isaiah Jacobs’ recruitment.

Oklahoma State is making a big push and Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy spent a good amount of time with Jacobs when he was last on campus for the Cowboys 26-13 win over Kansas State. Gundy stood outside the Oklahoma State locker room in the West End Zone in front of the display featuring Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas, and Terry Miller and spoke to Jacobs about how he could put his name in that legacy of running backs in Stillwater. [Go Pokes]

At least we won’t have to watch him light the world up for Bama in a title game like we did with big bro.

• Big one today.
