Big Country: The Movie

Berry Tramel was interviewed by a Vancouver filmmaker producing a film on the Vancouver Grizzlies… and their top draft pick.

And I invited Jayme (filmmaker) to Oklahoma for a meeting with Reeves when I knew exactly when and where he would be at a location: the 2017 Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame inductions at Riverwind Casino in Norman.

Sure enough, Jayme came back to Oklahoma in August 2017, and I introduced her to Big Country. He was gracious and accommodating as always, and he agreed to let her crew go out to Gans.

Now Jayme has finished her movie, and it’s not so much about the Grizzlies as it is about Big Country.

“Finding Big Country” is her finished product, and it’s been accepted into the Vancouver International Film Festival.

“The city is BUZZING about a film about Bryant, and the best thing is that it’s still a secret that I’ve found him!” Jayme wrote me. “The festival is incredible excited about the film — they loved it (it made two of their programmers cry!). I can’t wait to share Bryant’s story with the world but more importantly with the city of Vancouver.”

The film festival is Sept. 27-Oct. 12. Jayme believes her premiere will be Sept. 30 but that isn’t nailed down. [NewsOK]

How unreal that Pokes’ fans would get films on Eddie and Big Country?

Taking What’s Given

Before the book is closed on Missouri State, it’s worth noting (especially when considering Corndog’s performance) what the Bears were willing to give and takeaway from the Cowboys.

Gundy said Monday that Missouri State played two deep safeties often last Thursday, pushing Oklahoma State to rely on the run game and intermediate passes.

It’s where the Cowboys thrived in the 58-17 win. In addition to a 431-yard rushing performance, Cowboys running backs piled up 117 yards receiving. Inside receivers McCleskey and Dillon Stoner combined for 10 catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

Still, there were opportunities to be had over the top — ones where Gundy wants (needs?) Cornelius to take advantage.

“I think once he sees what he did and he’s able to practice this week, what I would like for him to do is to go play and to go play fearless,” Gundy said. “That’s what our quarterbacks have done here in the past. And don’t worry about making a mistake. There’s times we’re going to throw interceptions. I don’t know what to tell you. We throw the ball a bunch, we throw it down the field. We take a lot of chances. It is what it is.” [TulsaWorld]

Two things that stuck out in this excerpt – knowing deep balls were avoided as a result of the opponent’s strategy and that Gundy openly acknowledges the risks of passing the ball frequently.

Bonus – this may be the Corndog take I agree with most.

OSU and NCAA Notes

What kind of coach wins at Kansas?….247 has the Cowboy Football facilities ranked in their top 15….I’m convinced this is a thing in CFB – but after laying an egg offensively in your debut (Taggart at FSU), it’s not a great look….Shippy named to top 30 NCAA WotY list

A pretty meh weekend in Big 12 football but still excited to have it back.

I like this PFF top 25 – 12 vs. 13 next week!

Boynton got the video producer from Cowboy Football to make the long move to GIA.

Looks like Missouri State had a smaller crowd today than last week (rescheduled to avoid hurricane weather)

Had no idea Burt Reynolds and Corso played together at FSU, RIP to the Bandit. Couldn’t believe all the roles he turned down per this piece.
