Five Thoughts on Oklahoma State 84-78 Victory Against Grand Canyon
OSU is 9-0.
The Cowboys will go into Bedlam unbeaten.
Oklahoma State beat Grand Canyon 84-78 on Saturday night in Phoenix. Here are five takeaways from the win that made OSU 9-0.
1. Clary Called Game
Kanye Clary had a bit of an up-and-down night, but with the game hanging in the balance in the final minute, he swung it in the Cowboys’ direction.
GCU scored to cut OSU’s lead to 80-78 with 37 seconds to play. The Lopes elected to let the possession play out, and Clary pulled up for a 3 off a ball screen and nailed it, putting OSU up 83-78.
Then on the other end of the floor, Clary laid out for a steal to really put an end to it.
He finished with six points, four assists and two steals.
2. Fallah Carried
Grand Canyon had no answer for Parsa Fallah.
Coming off his first 20-point outing of the season against Sam Houston, Fallah scored 25 in the desert to go with six rebounds and three assists.
He was 8-for-9 from the field and 9-for-10 from the foul line. All of those foul shots came in the first half when the Lopes had just no clue of how to guard him.
Fallah’s contributions were particularly important early, as the rest of OSU’s offense was a little slow to get going. He had 15 points in the first 15 minutes of the game.
3. Bounce-Back Game for Christian Coleman
Christian Coleman was benched in the second half of OSU’s win against Sam Houston, but he responded well in Phoenix.
Coleman had 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting and had six rebounds, a block and a steal.
He got a rather weak technical foul called against him in the first half after he dunked on a Lope in transition.

Coleman also converted an and-one late to push OSU’s lead to 75-69.
4. And the Cowboys Did It without Their Leading Scorer
Vyctorius Miller was a game-time decision Saturday night and ended up not playing.
Miller went down early in the Cowboys’ win against Sam Houston with an apparent foot/ankle injury and didn’t return, but with him at least being suited up and on the bench in Phoenix, that would lead me to believe this isn’t going to be a long-term thing.
Miller entered the night as the Cowboys’ leading scorer, averaging 15.9 points a game. That number took a hit because he went down so early in the Sam Houston game, exiting after scoring five points.
It’s sort of a double positive for the Pokes. They get a nice semi-road win and one of their best scorers gets a little more time to get healthy.
5. Not the Cleanest of Games, But OSU Is 9-0
OSU was outrebounded for the first time this season. The Cowboys went just 4-for-13 from 3. They had fewer assists and more turnovers than Grand Canyon.
But they won the game.
The Pokes are 9-0 and had to grind one out in front of a mostly-hostile crowd to get there. That one could be nice for the resume.
