Former OSU offensive lineman Lane Taylor has been named a starter for the Green Bay Packers in week 1, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy announced on Monday. Green Bay released Pro Bowl left guard Josh Sitton, who started 110 games for the Pack since he was drafted in 2009, opening the door for Taylor to get more action.

Taylor is headed into his fourth season in Green Bay after starting two games in 2015. When asked about the big news for his former player on Monday, Gundy attributed his dedication to the program and work ethic for the biggest reasons of his success.

“It’s awesome. You know, he went from just a guy, to a practice guy, and then a roster guy, and now being named to starter,” said Gundy.” He’s a great example of just staying with it. He’s always worked hard, he always keeps his mouth shut, he does what he’s told, he’s not been an issue.

“We have a lot of guys that are never talked about, guys that have left here and gone into the workforce and I’m doing real well because of what they go through here. We couldn’t be any more proud of him.”

Gundy also noted that each NFL player who makes a roster receives a box of fresh OSU gear for the season, according to the O’Colly. That sounds pretty great, and the players love it.

“Even though they are big, tough guys that play in the NFL, they love to get that big box in the mail and get some new gear,” Gundy told the O’Colly.
