Former Western Kentucky Linebacker Darius Thomas Commits to Oklahoma State
Thomas had 54 tackles, seven tackles for loss and four sacks last season.
The Cowboys continue being aggressive in the transfer portal, this time landing a linebacker from Conference USA.
News broke on Tuesday that Darius Thomas is transferring to Oklahoma State. Listed at 6-foot-2, 212 pounds, Thomas spent the past three seasons at Western Kentucky. He transferred to Louisville for the spring semester before re-entering the portal when it opened. With the Hilltoppers last season, Thomas made 54 tackles, including seven tackles for loss and a team-high four sacks. He should have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Thomas was listed as a defensive back at Western Kentucky for his first two seasons. He played in eight games as a true freshman in 2022, recording nine tackles and a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown. He missed the 2023 season with injury.
His big year this past season earned him Conference USA honorable mention honors. His best game of the season came against Louisiana Tech, where Thomas made 10 tackles and had a tackle for loss. He had two sacks in the Hilltoppers’ game against Kennesaw State.
Out of Miramar High School in Florida, Thomas was a three-star prospect in the 2022 class. He was the No. 888 player in the 247Sports Composite ranking for the cycle, making him a top 75 safety and the No. 119 player from Florida in the class. He went to Western Kentucky over offers from Colorado, FAU, FIU and others.
Thomas is the seventh portal pickup the Cowboys have made this spring, adding a few grad transfers before the portal opened. Here lately, OSU has been bolstering its defense, adding defensive linemen Wendell Gregory (South Carolina), Taje McCoy (Colorado) and De’Marion Thomas (Vanderbilt). Darius Thomas is the fourth linebacker the Cowboys have added via the portal this offseason after picking up Bryan McCoy (Akron), Brandon Rawls (Saginaw Valley State) and Trip White (Ole Miss) in the first portal window.
