FSU, Michigan, USC All Among Favorites to Land Mike Gundy In 2020

Sure. OK.

Mike Gundy isn’t leaving Oklahoma State, and he isn’t leaving Stillwater. Not with what amounts to a lifetime contract that will never dip below $5 million a year.

He’s a made man in these parts and deservedly so. In a pair of weeks where we all paid homage to the godfather of modern Oklahoma State football — T. Boone Pickens — it’s easy to remember that orchestras, even well-oiled ones, don’t perform in a vacuum.

None of this, however, has kept Gundy’s name out of the mouths (or books) of Vegas oddsmakers. With three different coaches at high-profile universities off to tepid starts in 2019, the most flirtatious midwestern man with a mullet is atop everybody’s future lists.

Let’s go in order from FSU to Michigan (!) to USC.

How is Matt Campbell not in the Michigan group? His 8-4 records would fit in perfectly in Ann Arbor.

Most of this is nonsense, although Urban to USC is all the eyeball emojis. He’d destroy there. And it’s not as if he’s going to sit next to Matt Leinart breaking down Utah’s defensive schemes forever, right? Right?

As for Gundy, whatever. It would be hilarious for him to end up at Florida State, if only for the headlines (as Justin Southwell pointed out to us) …

Headline: Florida Man with Mullet Leads Team to Victory

Gundy to Hollywood is outrageous. Land for the peacocks is too expensive.

In some ways, Gundy going to Michigan — which again, IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN — would be the most apropos full-circle narrative. It would close the 20-year loop when Michigan Man Les Miles took over for OSU and assembled the pieces on the launching pad into CFB’s stratosphere.

Plus Gundy could run it 65 times a game without Wolverines’ fans raising one single question other than, Wait, why didn’t we run it more?
