Once reported and now official, hockey is coming to Boone Pickens Stadium.

Oklahoma State on Tuesday announced that Oklahoma State will host Oklahoma for a hockey game at 6 p.m. Jan. 30. The rink will be in place in the days leading up to the event for the public to skate in. More details on that to come as it gets closer.

“This is a historic event that reflects the remarkable growth of Cowboy Hockey in recent years,” OSU Athletic Director Chad Weiberg said. “Our students, alumni, fans, community and state will be able to see on full display the bold innovation of OSU Hockey and watch Bedlam in Boone Pickens Stadium.”

Hockey is currently a club sport at OSU. The Cowboys are 6-1 this school year, which includes an 11-3 win against OU in Tulsa on Sept. 3.

Last school year, the two state school clubs met at the BOK Center in Tulsa, where more than 15,000 tickets were sold. OSU won that game 13-2 and went on to play in the American Collegiate Hockey Association Men’s Division 2 national title game.

This won’t be the first time college hockey has made it in a football stadium. Michigan and Michigan State played at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor in front of 104,713. Earlier this year, Michigan State and Penn State played at Beaver Stadium in State College in front of 74,575.

“Playing hockey in Boone Pickens Stadium is something you don’t get to do twice,” OSU captain Kaden Nelson said in the release. “There’s going to be a lot of noise that night. A lot of people are going to come to see something they’ve never seen before. We’re coming to give them something they won’t forget. There have been a lot of sacrifices and dedication for this moment. We’re there to make a statement.”
