Grading the Uniforms: Week 3 vs. Pitt

Since 2011 the Cowboys have worn duplicate combinations a total of 22 times including Saturday against Pitt. The first reappearance of a uniform combo occurred in Week 2 of 2012 when they wore White-White-Gray at Arizona. Saturday marked the sixth time Black-White-Black has resurfaced, not including the first time the Pokes wore the Barbed Wire helmet in Bedlam of 2016.
This was the first repeat combo with the modern uniforms. A loss in 2016 to OU has been counterpoised with a win in Pittsburgh to give the modern combination a 1-1 record.
Helmet: B

[USATSI]
The polarizing helmet has made its return. I try to lean more toward liking it, which is easier for me when it’s paired with the black facemask. It’s also easier to like a helmet when it’s associated with winning. The Cowboys have won 3 out of 4 games in the Barbed Wire helmet. For now, this helmet lands in a spot well above average but far from the best.
Combo: A+

[USATSI]
Black-White-Black is arguably the best road look, so it’s understandable why it’s such a popular choice for away games. This uniform combo is top tier with black numbers.
Kyle, Carson, and I all agreed at one point in time that the orange pants were the best article in OSU’s arsenal, but I have had a revelation. At about the time that Tylan Wallace made that spectacular catch down the right sideline, it hit me as if Biff from Back to the Future was knocking on my skull with his knuckles saying, “Hello, anybody home? Think, McFly, think!” I’ve finally come to realize that the black pants are superior to the orange pants in the modern uniform set.
