Hoops Preview: TV Info, Team Stats and Projected Lineups before the Cowgirls Head to Iowa State
Can the Cowgirls shake off their worst game before a crucial final road game?
Coming into the final week of the regular season, teams would like to be playing their best basketball. The Cowgirls will need to shake off their worst game of the year and do so against a team that’s been playing up to its potential the last half of the season.
Oklahoma State got thumped in West Virginia on Saturday, turning in season lows in shooting and scoring on a way to 32-point loss to the Mountaineers. And that with plenty to play for as the Cowgirls would have liked to rise above their projected 8 seeding in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
On Wednesday night, they’ll have a chance to shake that off as an aberration if they can go into a hostile Hilton and take on the Cyclones. Iowa State is currently ranked No. 31 in the NET rankings, one spot behind OSU, meaning this would provide the Cowgirls with a final Quad 1 opportunity.
The Cowgirls thumped the Cyclones inside GIA last month 86-58, capping a five-game skid for Iowa State. But the Cyclones went on a five-game win streak immediately after leaving Stillwater and have been 7-2 since that blowout loss. They also saw the return of Addy Brown the last two games. Her injury was a big qualifier when talking heads discussed ISU’s early Big 12 skid.
On top of all that, the Cyclones haven’t lost a home game since Jan. 11, and both of their losses in Hilton came to currently ranked teams Baylor and West Virginia. Winning in Ames won’t be easy, but this is a final chance for OSU to show off to committee members in the regular season.
Here’s what you need to know before tipoff.
