James Washington, Marcell Ateman Headed to Senior Bowl

Oklahoma State’s two leading wideouts, James Washington and Marcell Ateman, have reserved their spots in the 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl to be played on Jan. 27 in Mobile, Alabama. Ateman reserved his spot last week.

Washington led the FBS with 1,423 receiving yards and won the Biletnikoff Award given to the nation’s top receiver this past week. Ateman, a heralded recruit out of high school who missed last season due to injury, finished the season 17th in receiving yards in the FBS with 1,042.

Although the duo are slated to play in the Camping World Bowl against Virginia Tech on Dec. 28 to put more highlights on tape, the Senior Bowl — which will be littered with NFL scouts — will give the two stars one final chance at impressing scouts in live action before the NFL combine and draft season.

A lot can change as far as projections to the NFL ranks, but a recent mock draft from CBS Sports pegs both Washington and Ateman as first-rounders, with Washington going No. 5 overall to Indy.

I think Andrew Luck will really have to be damaged goods for the Colts to let him leave via a trade in the offseason. Therefore, GM Chris Ballard gets him help outside of T.Y. Hilton. Washington and Hilton will not be fun for secondaries to cover downfield on the perimeter. [CBS Sports]

As for the 6-foot-4 Ateman, the latest mock has him going to Baltimore where he would team up with Super Bowl-winning (and elite level) quarterback Joe Flacco.

The Ravens have to pick a wideout early in the draft if they want to salvage the twilight of Joe Flacco’s career. Ateman has some Brandon Marshall to him. He bullies cornerbacks, and it’s rare to see him lose in a jump-ball situation. [CBS Sports]

Washington and Ateman are OSU’s first WR duo to reach 1,000 yards receiving in the same season and part of the first group in Big 12 history with a 4,000-yard passer, 1,000-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers.
