James Washington Responds to Hernia Rumors, Is ‘Looking Forward’ to First Game

After last week’s bizarre tweet-and-delete routine about an ambiguous hernia injury, it was fair to question the health of James Washington. No. 28 spoke to the media on Wednesday in Stillwater for the first time since the tweet was fired off by Pardon My Take late last Thursday evening.

“It was kind of funny honestly,” said Washington. “Just to see how stuff can spread so fast. I just threw it behind me and kept going about my business. People were telling me I was out four games. It kind of shocked me … I’m healthy. I’m looking forward to the first game.”

So I guess that is that. Mark Cooper of the Tulsa World added this tidbit which corroborates the tweet sent by Lauren Rew that Washington was checked out for a hernia injury.

He has an old hernia, one he thinks he’s had “since birth, probably.” A flare-up might be a pest for about 20 minutes, but he said it has never affected him in an OSU game and he doesn’t expect it to be a hindrance moving forward, either. Said Washington: “My dad always told us, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” [Tulsa World]

Regardless of all of this, the expectation should be that Washington is good to go for the Tulsa game and beyond. He was named to the Earl Campbell Award watch list earlier this week.
