Jeff Carroll’s Emphatic Slam Lands at No. 2 on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays
Senior sharpshooter Jeffrey Carroll has built his brand on lighting it up from beyond the arc, but Wednesday night it was his fireworks from inside the paint that elevated him to borderline celebrity status.
Carroll — affectionately referred to as “Clip” — landed at No. 2 on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays of the night Wednesday with his emphatic two-hand slam over Brandone Francis, who kindly stepped aside when he realized No. 30 was crashing down hard.
Clip’s dunk was a continuation of what Mike Boynton said after the game was his message before it.
“On practice on Monday, the message was simple,” said Boynton. “It wasn’t, ‘we have to be heroes or do anything outside of our ability.’ We have to be unselfish. We have to be the hardest playing team on the court. When we do those things we make shots better and feel better about how things are going.”
McGriff absolutely could’ve taken that driving lane that opened up when Carroll’s man collapsed, but instead he found his teammate in the lane and the rest is history.
“I take responsibility for how we played on Saturday, and I’m proud that they responded and played the way they did,” said Boynton.
