Mason Rudolph Presented with Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award
Mason Rudolph was presented with the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award on Friday night at a banquet in Baltimore.
Rudolph won the award, given to the quarterback who not only performs well on the field, but off it, over Baker Mayfield, Ryan Finley, J.T. Barrett, and Trace McSorley.
“The winner of the Golden Arm Award is recognized not only for his athletic accomplishments, but also for his character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities, and athletic abilities,” says the award’s website.
Candidates for the award are judged on their character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, and leadership qualities.
“Mason represents our football program the right way,” said coach Mike Gundy. “He’s won a ton of games for us. He’s played with broken ribs, he’s played with a broken foot and he’s been tremendous for this school and tremendous for society. I had a conversation with his mom and dad and told them for everything that he’s done (on the field), as a parent, you should be more proud of what he’s done (in the community). He’s awesome.”
Previous winners of the prestigious award include Peyton Manning, Deshaun Watson, Marcus Mariota, Eli Manning and Matt Ryan, among others.
