Mike Gundy was not a fan of the Third and Long Run Play
It’s no secret that the running game has been by far the weakest link in this overall unit throughout the season, but it came up big Saturday when it was needed most.
On a third and seven with the Cowboys trailing by 10 in the fourth quarter in Ames, the call to execute a running play caught Mike Gundy so off guard he didn’t know what hit him.
“I couldn’t get to my button to ask if they’d completely lose their mind fast enough,” Gundy said at his weekly press conference Monday.

Of course, Chris Carson converted on third and long and helped propel a big drive for the Cowboys in another incredible comeback victory. Mike Yurcich clearly saw some sort of formation or alignment in the scheme that he felt may play in favor of the Cowboys, and his recognition was huge to potentially boost the confidence of both Chris Carson and an offensive line that has received some unfair criticism throughout the year. Maybe it’s a good thing Gundy couldn’t get to his button quick enough.
