Next Up: Spencer Sanders Advances to State Semifinals
Spencer Sanders might be ready for the Big 12 after putting up all of the yards last week and Jayveon Cardwell had a solid game in the secondary in a valiant playoff effort. Here is what went down with the two remaining Cowboy recruits still in the playoffs.
Spencer Sanders, Quarterback
Putting Sanders’ stats in this weekly article has made me realize that he does just about the same thing every week. 275+ passing yards, 75+ on the ground and between 4-6 touchdowns per game, resulting in a Ryan victory of usually three scores or more. You would think that some of those numbers would drop off as the Raiders barreled in to the 4th round of the playoffs.
So naturally, Sanders did those numbers and more. He went for 302 yards through the air and 183 on the ground, not to mention seven touchdowns and zero turnovers as Ryan took down Lubbock Coronado 69-49. Sanders tore his ACL against Highland Park in the state semifinals last year, and will get a shot at redemption against the defending state champions in the state semis next week.
Here is Boone’s recap of the game.
Jayveon Cardwell, Cornerback
Steele lost to powerhouse Austin Westlake last week 28-14. Cardwell and the Knights put up a nice fight against the Chaparrals but fell just short. Cardwell did have a nice interception in the loss. Sanders is now the only future Cowboy still playing.
